Manchester United striker Cristiano Ronaldo has been issued a warning by police after he smashed an autistic boy’s phone in anger, reports The Mirror.
While leaving the pitch after losing 0-1 to Everton last season in the Premier League, Ronaldo punched 14-year-old Jacob Harding in the arm, causing the boy’s phone to fall to the ground and shatter. Ronaldo later apologized to him.
“We can confirm that the 37-year-old was voluntarily present at the station and was interrogated with caution in connection with the assault and criminal damage charges. The charge stems from an incident following the Everton-Manchester United football game at Goodison Park on Saturday 9 April.
The matter was resolved by way of a conditional warning. The case is now closed, the Merseyside police said in a statement.
Ronaldo agreed to pay compensation to the boy, the source said.
Cristiano Ronaldo made 37 appearances for Manchester United last season and scored 24 goals. In the current draw of the Premier League, the Portuguese did not score with effective actions in two meetings.
