Former Torpedo coach Valery Petrakov believes that the Moscow club should be headed by a coach who has extensive experience in the RPL.

On Thursday, Torpedo announced the termination of cooperation with head coach Alexander Borodyuk by agreement of the parties. According to Match TV, Alexander Kerzhakov is the main contender to replace Borodyuk, and in the near future Nikolai Kovardaev, who has been the head coach of Torpedo-2 since February 2022, will lead the team.

– What to say? It always happens: when the team does not have a result, the coach suffers. He has all the responsibility. The leadership did not give Borodyuk a long chance. In my opinion, this is a good level of specialist. He needed to be given time to work. It is difficult to move from the first division to the highest. Little time for preparation, selection. Everything is interconnected. Borodyuk could bring the matter to mind, but they did not give such an opportunity.

– What should be done so that the team that has gone upstairs can quickly adapt there? Is there a way?

“Here, you see, it’s a double-edged sword. We assembled a team, the guys played, we solved the problem of entering the RPL. And what, take them, disperse them all, replace them with others? Remove half of the staff? I think this is wrong. The team looked good in the First League. And it is right that they were given a chance to prove themselves in the major leagues. What difference does it make how old Lebedenko, Ryazantsev, Temnikov are? They played, they had a goal. They fulfilled, they were left. But, you see, it didn’t work out from the start of the RPL. Although they could have played better in Samara, they could have played with Khimki.

– If the team had four or five points, no one would think about removing the coach?

– Of course. But, in any case, in relation to the guys who brought Torpedo out of the First League to the RPL, the club leaders acted honestly. It was necessary to strengthen the composition pointwise. But what are the possibilities of Torpedo? This is not Zenit, not CSKA, not Spartak, where everything is counted in millions.

– What to expect next? Ahead of the “Torpedo” – “Zenith”, “Krasnodar”, “Rostov”. Plus Cup.

– Hard to say. Maybe a coach will come, under which they will find funds for selection. But not everyone will go now. My opinion: you need to take an experienced coach who has been in the Premier League, been in such situations. If they take the young one, there will be no sense, ”RB Sport” quotes Petrakov.
