The former defender of Rubin and Rostov, Spaniard Cesar Navas, said that he considers the ex-president of Spartak Moscow, Leonid Fedun, a big football fan and a specialist in whom dedication is felt.
On Monday, Lukoil announced that it had acquired 100% of the club’s shares, as well as the Otkritie Bank Arena stadium. Fedun resigned as president, member and chairman of the board of directors of the Red-Whites in connection with his withdrawal from the club’s shareholders. He will not take part in the management of Spartak.
– The main news of the week in the RPL – Fedun’s departure from Spartak – a shock?
– Fedun led Spartak for so many years that it is strange to imagine the club without him. I don’t know exactly what kind of president he was, because he never played there. But he felt passion and dedication to football. 18 years in this post speaks volumes about his love for the game. Otherwise, he probably would not have been able to withstand so much public pressure, to which the head of a top club is doomed. I consider Fedun to be a big football fan who did everything possible to make Spartak perform at their best in all competitions, wherever they play.
Navas also shared his opinion about the coach of the “red and white” Guillermo Abascal, suggesting that the Spanish specialist will be able to make Spartak the champion.
I have heard good things about him. I have a certain impression about this coach, but I don’t know how Abascal works. He is not yet well known in Spain as he is still very young and has recently coached in other countries.
– Can he make Spartak a champion?
“Of course he is capable of it. If Abascal was chosen as the head coach of Spartak, then he has the necessary qualities to become a champion with this team. But, I repeat, I am not familiar with his methods of work,” Navas told the “Championship”.
Abascal led the Moscow team on June 10. After six rounds of the WORLD RPL this season, Spartak is in second place in the standings, behind Zenit.
