The former Spartak coach is not allowed to play. The attacker poisoned the field with a dangerous poison

The German police are already looking for the perpetrator.

Football matches are rescheduled infrequently. Players take to the field in almost any weather, and specialists usually deal with technical problems quickly. But sometimes the circumstances before the game develop in a truly unexpected way.

The German Cup match, in which the team of Domenico Tedesco was supposed to participate, was in jeopardy. All because of the actions of an unknown intruder who brought to the field … a dangerous poison.

What was the perpetrator thinking?

Preparing for the title defense

During the time spent at Spartak, Tedesco managed to turn into a favorite of Moscow fans. However, the German specialist did not stay at the club after the commemorative silver medal, explaining his decision by family circumstances. Soon Domenico returned to his homeland and headed the famous Leipzig there.

With the Red Bulls, the coach achieved an outstanding result on the move, winning the national cup, the first trophy in the history of the club. Now the team will have to defend the title – the start of the next draw of the tournament was scheduled just for July-August of this year. According to the regulations, the current winner of the cup must start at the same time as the rest of the teams – that is, from the 1/32 final stage.

At this stage of the tournament, there are several rules set by the local football federation to help small teams replenish their own budget and make the competition more competitive. One such rule prohibits teams from the country’s top division from playing cup matches at home, even if the stadiums of their more modest opponents do not meet the requirements of the tournament.

Leipzig, which got Teutonia-Ottensen from Hamburg in the 1/32 finals, got into just such a situation. The artificial field of the team of the fourth German division, according to the requirements of the federation, cannot be used for a match of such a high level. Because of this, the leadership of a small club had to look for an alternative site.

A suitable stadium was found in the city of Dessau-Rosslau. The field there meets all standards, and the stands can accommodate 20,000 fans. But, to the disappointment of Teutonia fans, the field is located 400 kilometers from their beloved city. There were, of course, closer options, but St. Pauli and Hamburg refused to provide their fields.

The match of the first round of the German Cup with the participation of “Leipzig” and “Teutonia” was scheduled for August 30. The arrival of the trophy owner in the tiny town aroused great interest among football fans. More than seven thousand tickets have already been sold a week before the match. By the beginning of the game, there might not have been any empty seats at all.

But all the work of the organizers of the event went to waste for an unexpected reason. The German publication Bild, citing police sources, reported that the RB Leipzig match in the 1/32 finals will probably not take place at the stadium in Dessau-Rosslau due to the fact that the lawn on the field suddenly became completely unusable.

It’s all about the poisonous substance that “killed” the grass in the stadium. This case even interested local law enforcement agencies. They found out that the incident was the fault of an unidentified person who deliberately poured poison in several places.

– A substance was used in the penalty areas and in the central circle, due to which the lawn was compressed. We are investigating property damage,” Bild quoted a source from the police as saying.

Law enforcement agencies are already looking for the perpetrator. But at the same time, you need to understand that there is a week left before the start of the match. During this time, the federation and the teams will have to solve a difficult task, otherwise the game will have to be moved to another date, and it will be extremely difficult to find it in the busy Leipzig calendar. Now options are being considered with other stadiums, as well as with an emergency replacement of the lawn on the field where the sabotage occurred. It remains unclear and most importantly – the motive of the criminal.
