UEFA again opposed the inclusion of clubs from Crimea in Russian football
The Union of European Football Associations (UEFA) continues to consider Crimea a “special zone” for football purposes until further notice, Crimean teams are still not allowed to compete under the auspices of the Russian Football Union (RFU). It is reported by RIA Novosti Sport with reference to the UEFA press service.
– As for the situation in Crimea, in accordance with the decision of the UEFA emergency committee dated August 22, 2014, the UEFA Executive Committee decided to ban Crimean clubs from playing in competitions organized by the RFU from January 1, 2015, and that the region be considered a “special zone” for football goals until further notice.
Crimea has been declared a special football territory by UEFA. For these purposes, in July 2015, under the auspices of UEFA, the Crimean Football Union with a special status was created. At the moment, not a single Crimean club participates in professional tournaments under the auspices of the RFU.
On August 22, at a meeting of the presidium of the Football National League (FNL), a letter from the Crimean Football Union was considered on the inclusion of the peninsula’s clubs in the number of participants in the competition under the auspices of the FNL. As a result of the presidium, it was decided to create a joint working group that will analyze the readiness of the professional clubs of the Crimea for integration. A delegation from the FNL is due to visit Crimea in the near future.
