Benzema named UEFA Player of the Year, Ancelotti named Coach of the Year

Real Madrid striker Karim Benzema has been named the 2021/22 Footballer of the Year by the Union of European Football Associations (UEFA).
The ceremony took place on Thursday in Istanbul. Real Madrid goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois and Manchester City midfielder Kevin de Bruyne were also nominated for the award.
Benzema made 46 appearances in all competitions last season, scoring 44 goals and providing 15 assists. The Frenchman became the top scorer of the Champions League.
Carlo Ancelotti, head of Real Madrid, received the award for the best coach. Among the contenders for the title were Josep Guardiola (Manchester City) and Jurgen Klopp (Liverpool).
Under Ancelotti, Real Madrid won the Champions League last season, and the team also won the championship and the Spanish Super Cup.
