Fired from Bournemouth, Parker is in the lead.
The first resignations as a coach are recorded in the English Premier League. It cannot be called extraordinary. Bournemouth manager Scott Parker has been fired from his post. The reason was more than heavy: the defeat of Liverpool with a score of 0: 9. It also came after Parker’s criticism of the club’s management: the manager hinted that Bournemouth had been too passive in the transfer market this summer. Well now he doesn’t have to worry about that.
Parker became the first coach Premier League since 2004, fired in August. But this is not the fastest layoff since the start of the season. So, it’s time to take a look at this ranking of the fastest resignations since the start of the championship in England.
1998/99 – Kenny Dalglish (Newcastle – sacked in August after two games)
“King” Kenny started the season not like a king. So he then commented on the resignation of the president of a specialized club Freddie Shepherd. Although the Magpies did not lose in the first two rounds, they drew with Charlton and Chelsea. True, in the previous season they took 13th place. So was it worth it to spend the preseason with Dalglish?
1993/94 – Peter Reed (Manchester City – sacked in August after four games)
In the first four rounds of that championship, City, under Reed, scored only one point and one goal. But the decision to step down was influenced not only by disastrous results, but also by executive reshuffle.
2004/05 – Bobby Robson (Newcastle – sacked in August after four games)
And here the logic of Newcastle is more difficult to understand. Of course, the start of the season turned out to be unsuccessful, and in the first four games the Magpies failed to win even once. But firing a legendary coach after only four rounds? In addition, in the previous season, Newcastle finished fifth in the league and reached the Cup semi-finals Uefa.
2022/23 – Scott Parker (Bournemouth – sacked in August after four games)
And here is the “hero” of this year. Parker’s first season at Bournemouth was not bad, finishing second in the league behind only Fulham. They also started well in the Premier League, beating Aston Villa 2-0 on their debut. And then the bankruptcy began. There was a heavy defeat by Manchester City (0: 4), the defeat to Arsenal (0: 2) added problems, and then Liverpool finished the “cherries” with their 9: 0.
2019/20 – Javi Gracia (Watford – sacked in September after four games)
Gràcia has been the victim of internal divisions that added to a shaky start to the season in which Watford picked up a point in four games. The impatience of the club’s management was also fueled by Gracia’s reluctance to use signed newcomer Ismail Sarr for record money. This also played a role, as was later reported.
2017/18 – Frank de Boer (Crystal Palace – sacked in September after four games)
The Dutch specialist holds the unenviable record for the worst start in the Premier League. His Crystal Palace was inconsistent, losing all four early games without scoring a single goal. And de Boer couldn’t really explain anything. And he was immediately expelled from the club.
2000/01 – Gianluca Vialli (Chelsea – sacked in September after five games)
Since his appointment in a year and a half, Vialli has been able to win five trophies. However, the club management did not like the start of the new season, even if it is difficult to call it a frank failure. Chelsea have six points from five games. The leaders did not wait for improvement.
2013/14 – Paolo Di Canio (Sunderland – sacked in September after five games)
Di Canio was able to keep Sunderland out of relegation the previous season. However, the expected progress has not occurred. Already the start of the championship in 2013 came out in such a way that it was now possible to accurately predict the start. In the first five rounds Di Canio managed to score only one point.
1996/97 – Howard Wilkinson (Leeds United – sacked in September after five games)
In the fifth round of the English championship, Leeds were not in the worst ninth place in the standings and had seven points to their credit. What could go wrong? Match against Manchester United. In this match, “Leeds” lost with a score of 0: 4 and the club management could not stand it.
2003/04 – Glen Hoddle (Tottenham – sacked in September after six games)
Spurs legend Hoddle was the team’s manager for two and a half years, but the club bosses couldn’t get off to a bad start in 2003. Hoddle was only able to score four points in the first six rounds of the league and the team he was in the relegation zone.
2016/17 – Francesco Guidolin (Swansea – sacked in October after seven games)
The management of the Welsh club presented an unexpected gift to an experienced specialist. He was fired on his 61st birthday. The reason was a bad start to the championship, where Swansea only scored four points out of 21 possible in seven rounds.
2021/22 – Hisco Munoz (Watford – sacked in October after seven games)
In the first round, Watford Munoz impressed with a win over Aston Villa and there were no signs of problems. However, after seven games, this victory remained the only one, and the coach was sacked to be replaced by Claudio Ranieri, who has experience of victories in Premier League.
2001/02 – Peter Taylor (Leicester City – sacked in September after eight games)
The bad signs came at the end of the previous season, when the Foxes lost nine of their last ten games. The failures continued at the start of the new championship. Leicester started with a 0-5 loss to Bolton and scored just five points in eight rounds.
2015/16 – Brendan Rodgers (Liverpool – sacked in October after eight games)
Three wins, three draws and two defeats – the club’s management did not expect such a result, having spent £ 290m during Rodgers’ training to strengthen the team. However, the decision to replace him with Jurgen Klopp may have been the best decision for Reds bosses in the modern era.
2008/09 – Juande Ramos (Tottenham – sacked in October after eight games)
Tottenham leaders never held a ceremony if they saw that the problems were starting. It was customary to leave Ramos after eight rounds, when the team was at the bottom of the standings with two points scored. Everything is reasonable.
