Pep Guardiola stressed he would prefer Manchester City to be 20 points clear of Liverpool, while holding back comments on reports wanting a season-ending Erling Halland move to Etihad.

Liverpool reduced the gap to Manchester City to one point, the citizens could now feel the “hot breath” of the Reds behind them. Pep Guardiola stressed that he would like his team to take the lead by 20 points.

At the same time, he refrained from commenting on the scripts for Erling Halland, who has been the bone of contention of all European football, however, according to English reports, City were the big winners in welcoming him to Etihad this summer.

“Every month since I’ve been here, one or two people say we’re going to sign 50 players. Right now it’s impossible to talk about someone who isn’t here. He’s a Dortmund player and we have an incredible course ahead of us.

At the end of the season it’s the transfer window and a lot of things will happen. Maybe I’m talking about this club that needs a striker for the next five, six, seven years. I’m not going to be the guy who says we’re successful or not because we didn’t have an attacker.

We have to play well and get into the penalty area with seven or eight players. “It’s the best way to score.”

City meet Southampton in the FA Cup on Sunday (20/3) while Atletico will be their opponents in the quarter-finals of the Champions League.

“We’ll try to reach Wembley in the English Cup semi-finals, we’re in the bottom eight teams in the Champions League. We’d like to be 20 points ahead of Liverpool, but that’s impossible.

What we have achieved so far is wonderful. We will return and play the games (after the break for the national teams), we pray for the players to return from their national teams without injuries.
