A day after Bayern’s top four finish, Leverkusen responded in kind as Xabi Alonso’s side beat Union 4-0 with typical aplomb to rise alone to the top of the Bundesliga standings.

Harry Kane has done wonders for Bayern in his first season in the Bundesliga, already scoring 17 goals in his first few games (no one else has done the same), but Bayer Leverkusen won’t let Bayern enjoy his successes for long as they would like.

And that’s because Xabi Alonso’s side appear more determined than ever to win their first ever league title this year. The “Aspirins” strolled away against a weak Union team on Sunday evening, won 4-0 and are back at the top with a +2 lead over the champions of the last 11 years.

Grimaldo paved the way to victory in the 23rd minute with an elusive shot from just outside the penalty area. In the second half there was a storm that flattened the Berliners and Kosunu, Ta and Tela made it 4-0.

In fact, with this result, Bayern reached 10 wins in their first 11 games (the only game they didn’t win was the 2-2 away game against Bayern, which equalized in stoppage time), with 31 points being the highest offensive total of all time, equaling Bayern’s mark (31) from the 2015/16 season.
