Champions League
Messi was substituted in a Champions League game for the first time since 2014
Christophe Gaultier pulled Messi back against Juventus in the 84th minute, ending the Argentine superstar’s streak of 63 consecutive games. The last time a change was made was in October 2014.
Paris Saint-Germain started the new Champions League with a 2-1 win over Juventus at the Parc des Princes on the right flank. Christophe Gaultier lined up all the Parisians’ stars on the pitch, including Lionel Messi.
The French coach kept “Pulga” on the pitch until the 84th minute when he replaced him for Carlos Soler. The Argentinian superstar made his first substitution in Europe’s premier club competition since 2014 in the 3-1 group stage win over Ajax at the Camp Nou.
With that, Gaultier ended a streak of 63 games in which Messi played the entire game without being substituted on.
