Xavi: “I’m angry, we can’t stop a counterattack”
Xavi expressed his anger after Barcelona’s defeat to Bayern Munich in Munich and stressed at the press conference that his team was better and should have got away with the three points.
After beating Viktoria Pilsen 5-1 in the Champions League group opener, Barcelona stumbled to Munich and suffered a 2-0 defeat by Bayern Munich.
Xavi commented on his team’s good performances, but expressed annoyance at the press conference, arguing that it’s impossible to lose a game like this.
The Catalan coach was annoyed with his players’ reaction to the first goal, scored by Lika Hernandez’s header, and the second, which came from a counterattack.
“We were better. We had a great first half but you can’t lose a game like that. It was a winning day, not a draw. I’m pissed, the game got away in the first quarter of the second half. EI’m mad, I don’t like losing. We don’t deserve it.
We were better than Bayern. We created a lot of chances. Small details in Champions League games make all the difference and in the end you pay for those mistakes.
The lesson is not to repeat them. It can’t happen to us from a corner, it can’t happen to us not knowing how to stop a counterattack. We talked about it and we worked on it.
We’re going 0-2, which doesn’t reflect what happened on the pitch. The result is bad, the way we played was good. Errors should be minimized. efficiency was lacking. We had a golden opportunity, we had to take it.”
