Juventus 1-2 Benfica: triumph in Turin for Vlachodimos’ team and fire in the 8th group
Odysseus Vlachodimos’ Benfica upset Juventus in Turin to win 2-1 for Group 8 of the Champions League.
Juventus took an early lead but Benfica withstood the pressure and staged a comeback to victory 2-1 in Turin for the 8th group of the Champions League with his team Odysseus Vlachodimos now a favorite for qualifying.
For another game this season, the “old lady” opened the top scorer early. Arkadius Milik defeated the Greek goalkeeper with an excellent header and made it 1-0 in just 4 minutes. A few minutes later, Filip Kostis could have scored 2-0 from outside the small area and diagonally, but sent the ball wide of the goal.
That was the Bianconeri’s last good moment for the next few minutes and handed the chances to the Lusitanians. Roger Schmidt’s men threatened Mattia Perin’s goal several times before winning out a penalty in the 43rd minute. Joao Mario equalized to make it 1-1 and celebrated defiantly as a former Inter player, prompting Leonardo Bonucci to react.
For the Italians, who were still in danger with every attack and especially a counterattack by the Portuguese, this irritation did not turn into a positive thing. Perin and the miss kept the score low except in the 55th minute when Benfica staved off the excitement after three finals.
The goal launched Matias De Silio and Angel Di Maria, followed shortly after by Moise Kean and Niccolò Fazioli. No worries for the guests, who, like in the 1st part, had a post and new chances to score. The only good moment for the hosts came in the 85th minute when Dusan Vlahovic sent the ball into the net but was ruled offside, with the goal not counting.
Juventus were defeated again and start the group stage for the first time in the institution’s history with two defeats, while Benfica have been victorious in all competitions this year.
