Ceferin: “No discussion about Champions League games outside of Europe”
UEFA President Aleksandar Ceferin has denied talks about staging Champions League matches outside Europe’s borders, stressing he would have known if that had happened.
A recent report from Athletic reported that UEFA’s top clubs are considering the idea of hosting Champions League games outside of Europe, with the USA, China and the Middle East being considered as possible hosts for the group stage games .
For his part, UEFA President Alexander Ceferin denied the rumors and related publications at his press conference on Wednesday (21/09), stressing that he would have known if such a discussion had taken place.
“With all due respect to the media, it’s impossible to imagine what kind of news could come out. We never talked about it. But suddenly I read in some media that it will happen without us ever mentioning it.
Check with UEFA directly. I would know if there were any talks about playing Champions League games outside of Europe and I don’t know about that.”
