Olympiacos – Brescia 5-8: Woke up late and suffered defeat
Olympiakos suffered a defeat against Brescia in the top derby of the first group of the LEN Champions League. Luongo was the Italians’ big protagonist with three goals, while Olympiakos stayed away from goals in the first two eight minutes and only ’emerged’ in the fourth eight minutes.
Olympiakos welcomed Brescia to their ninth game of the LEN Champions League at Papastratio, with the Italians winning 5-8 to stay top of the table on 23 points while Olympiakos stayed on 16. Brescia is the only team to have beaten Olympiakos this season, as they also beat him 8-7 in Italy.
Olympiakos didn’t start well as Brescia played excellent defense and severely limited Theodore Vlachos’ offensive arms. On the contrary, Brescia found the solution on two occasions, with their leader Presiuti, with a penalty when the red-white defense was inactive and with a nice shot.
In the second eight minutes, both teams had a chance to score some goals, but failed in the final sprint. Brescia scored again with a nice shot from Lazic.
Olympiakos scored their third goal of the game in the third eight minutes, with a nice shot from Dervisi in the 18th minute of the game, but the Italians defended well afterwards, along with Tesanovic who was outstanding, while Luongo’s two goals increased the score to 1 -5.
Alessiani took advantage of the dismissal that Brescia had fought for and scored the 1:6 with a nice shot. Filipovic reduced the lead to 2-6 just before the end of the third eight minutes.
Olympiakos started a small counterattack in the fourth eight minutes with two nice goals from Filipovic and reduced to 4:6, but the sending offs bowed Olympiakos, who conceded two goals and lost hope of a turnaround (4:8). The end result was set by Genidounias.
