Alexander ZUBKOV: “It will be twice as cool if we take off the glasses”
Shakhtar Donetsk midfielder Oleksandr Zubkov commented on the Champions League 3rd round match against Real Madrid in which Donetsk lost 1-2. As you know, Zubkov became the author of Shakhtar’s prestige goal.
– It was a tough match. We knew who we were playing against. It is clear that Real Madrid has the advantage and the first 30 minutes were very difficult for us. At first there was a nervousness. Still, we are a less experienced team than Real Madrid. At this level, any mistake can be costly. We lost a lot, but towards the end of the first half, I think we calmed down and imposed our game.
– It’s great to beat Real Madrid at the Santiago Bernabeu.
– Of course, in such a stadium, in the presence of so many fans, it’s nice to score a goal against Real Madrid. But it would be twice as good if we got the glasses from here.
– It looks like you didn’t celebrate the goal. Why? Why?
– Probably, by the end of the first half, the forces were already leaving. Therefore, there was no such feeling.
– Did you hear how the fans applauded after the match?
– Yes, we formed a circle, thanking both our fans and the Real Madrid fans, because there was a really nice atmosphere where it was always fun to play.
