Javi: “I’m angry and sad. A draw is a failure. We made our own mistakes.”
barcelona head coach Javi Hernandez Commenting on the draw against Inter in the 4th round of the Champions League (3:3):
“Honestly, I think the first half was excellent. We are able to continue the struggle – that is clear. There were parts in the last two games that I was satisfied with, but then we made mistakes due to loss of concentration.
We made mistakes that are not allowed in this tournament. Now we need to put ourselves back together and trust in character and faith in success. We didn’t show our best this season, but still there are championships, cups, Super Cups at home – the season is long. The tactical idea was good. Maybe we slowed down in intensity in the second half. We are a team, so I will not separate any players. If Piqué, Busquets, Pedri or Dembélé make mistakes, they are my failures.
If you play a draw in front of crowded stands instead of a win, it’s a failure for me. It’s my fault, no less than the team’s fault. As a fan, I am also angry and sad. When I took over the team last year, we had nothing against Bayern. This time that is no longer the case. We made mistakes ourselves. It’s time for self-criticism, but at the same time, we’re in better shape this season than last season.
Barcelona defender Eric Garcia:
“Today we made mistakes that cannot be made at this level. The game turned out the way we wanted: with high pressure, with ball selection. We needed to keep playing in this mode, but in the second half we couldn’t control the situation as well as before. And as soon as we risked being left with three defenders, we finished in 15 minutes.
