Sporting – Marseille 0-2: Overtake and full qualification for Marseille
Marseille doubled their wins against Sporting and boosted their chances of qualifying for Group 4 of the Champions League with a 2-0 victory in Lisbon.
Marseille had dissolved Athletic in “Velodrome” and did the same in “José Albalade” with comfort 2-0 for the 4th match day of the 4th group of the Champions League a victory that gives them a big advantage in the fight for the knockout qualification.
The French took control of the game from the start and found themselves doubly favored in the 20th minute after Ricardo Esgaio was sent off with a second yellow card and a penalty awarded. Matteo Guduzzi scored and ten minutes later Alexis Sanchez made it 2-0.
Ruben Amorim brought on Isaakou Fatos after he was sent off and made two more substitutions in the 35th minute, Sotiris Alexandropoulos being one of them. He also knocked out Trincao at the break and put Flavio Nazinio in his place, but the Lions’ image didn’t improve.
As if that wasn’t enough, Pedro Gonsalves was sent off in protest after half an hour, making the task of Igor Tudor’s men even easier.
Despite missing chances to score higher, the 2-0 lead remained until the end, with Marseille overtaking their opponent in the table.
