Leipzig – Real 3: 2: triumph and semi-qualification for the Germans
Leipzig took another step into qualifying for Group 6 of the Champions League, which will be sealed with a positive result against Shakhtar on the final day of the game, with a superb 3-2 win against Real Madrid.
Leipzig looked Real in the eye, hit them with me 3-2 on his 5th matchday in the “Red Bull Arena”. 6th group and now have Champions League Round of 16 qualifying in their hands unless they are beaten by Shakhtar on the final day.
Leipzig was motivated against the semi-European champions, who had qualified from the day before. That difference was evident from the opening minutes, as Josko Guardiol and Christopher Nkunku gave the hosts a two-goal lead in the 18th minute, with the Frenchman also missing a chance in between.
A negative protagonist in all these crucial stages was Thibaut Courtois, who showed poor reactions and was responsible for the 2-0, but another mainstay of last year’s title fight, Vinicius, reduced in the 44th minute and brought the weak Real back in the fight.
In the 2. nd half, the guests managed a reasonably balanced game to prevent the first defeat of the season. The efforts of David Alaba and Dani Carvajal were combined with the efforts of Timo Werner and Dani Olmo and the Westphalians emerged victorious from this match.
In the 81st minute, Werner made it 3-1 after a wonderful collaboration and ‘secured’ victory for the Germans, who didn’t lose it despite Rodrigo’s injury-time penalty. Now they also have qualification in their hands if they don’t lose the last match against Shakhtar in Poland after losing 4-1 in the first round.
LEIPZIG: Blaswich, Simakan (89′ Henrichs), Orban, Guardiol, Raum (69′ Diallo), Haidara (84′ Kable), Slager, Soboslai, Enkunku, Forsberg (69′ Olmo), Silva (69′ Werner)
