Brugge – Porto 0-4: Destroyed the league leaders and set a bow for the knockout stages

Porto became the first team to score against Brugge, the first team to beat the Belgians and an impressive 4-0 win at Jan Breidel sees them through to the knockout rounds from Group 2 follow the Champions League.

THE Bruges had not conceded or lost in four games 2nd group the Champions League to welcoming Porto to “Jan Breidel”. The “dragons” flowed along like siphons 4-0 and they’re targeting the knockouts.


The Belgians had already secured their presence in the next phase of the institution and despite starting with several substitutes, it was clear from the opening minutes that they did not share the same motivation. Finally, Sergio Conceicao’s side suffered a home defeat in the derby against Benfica and had no place for another crucial game.

The visitors’ chances followed one another and if the final decision to shoot or pass had been more cautious, the score would have gone up from the 1st half. Simon Mignolet was the only Brugge player to match a performance from previous games but it wasn’t enough.

Mehdi Taremi opened the way to victory in the 33rd minute and in the second half Evanilsson, Stephen Eustaquios and Iranos added triumphant proportions to the Portuguese victory with his second goal.

Brugge had a chance to score the first goal of the 2nd half and level the score at 1-1 as they won a penalty but Diogo Costa saved Hans Vanaken’s attempt. The Portuguese goalkeeper came out of his goal earlier and therefore blocked the shot, after which the referee (via VAR) ordered a replay. Costa did the same in the execution of Noah Lahn, becoming the first goalkeeper with three saved penalties in the same season at the institution.
