UEFA fines Paris for pro-Palestine banners in game with Maccabi Haifa
Paris Saint-Germain are fined by UEFA after their fans hoisted a banner with a pro-Palestinian political message during their match against Maccabi Haifa at the Parc des Princes.
Paris Saint-Germain fans hoisted a banner in favor of Palestine during their home game against Maccabi Haifa in the fifth game of the Champions League. Specifically, the banner said: “Gaza exists, Gaza resists, free Palestine“.
UEFA’s ‘policy’ is not to spread political messages about its events (and football in general) and for this reason the Parisians are facing sanctions, as reported by L’Equipe.
In addition to the “provocative messages of an aggressive nature”, the Parisians, like the fans of Maccabi Haifa, are being prosecuted for the consumption of tobacco products. The trial will take place at the end of November and the French champions are likely to face a heavy fine.
