Klopp: ‘I’m still waking up in my sleep to Leeds’ second goal’
Jurgen Klopp stressed that it’s still too early to judge Liverpool, their players and themselves, while saying in the press conference ahead of the Napoli game that he saw the second Leeds goal that cost his team in his sleep.
After the draw against Leeds, Liverpool welcome Napoli to Anfield on Tuesday (01/11) for the Champions League, having naturally qualified for the next stage of the competition.
At the press conference, Jurgen Klopp stressed that it was too early and therefore unfair to judge his team and, referring to the defeat against Leeds, explained that he still sees the second goal that cost the Reds in his sleep.
“Of course we do our job. But I think the criticism should come later in the season or maybe at the end. Whatever you say about the team now, I don’t think it’s 100% fair.
It’s normal to ask these questions, but we’ll have to answer them later. We’re all out there to be judged, coaches and players.
I still wake up in my sleep to Leeds’ second goal. But there’s a reason it happened. What you can see is that the boys wanted to win the game. That’s actually the message.
We expect more from ourselves, but we have to make sure we do it one step at a time. The challenge now is to avoid the mistakes and keep the good ones.
When people look at me and say I look tired or whatever, that’s not true. I can’t excuse that. It’s not just my job to be here when the sun is shining and someone is handing us a trophy.
My job is to be there when we have to go through a very difficult time and I will do that with everything I have. I’m ready to play against Napoli.”
