Leverkusen – Bruges 0-0: The Germans in the Europa League, the Belgians among the weakest in the knockout group

After a 0-0 draw against Club Brugge on Matchday 6 of Group 2 of the Champions League, Leverkusen took the point to qualify for the Europa League.

Leverkusen and Bruges they stayed 0-0 for his 6th matchday 2nd group of the Champions League, a result that sends the Germans into the Europa League via 3rd place (leaving Atlético in 4th place as they are favored in the draw) and relegating the Belgians to 2nd place and the knockout stages renders powerless.


The two teams went into the game with a lot of nervousness and without the will to make a fatal mistake. The pace wasn’t good, the markings were hard and the phases were minimal. A shot from Kasper Nielsen for the visitors and one from Mitchell Bakker for the home side was the best they could offer until Jeremy Fribong had a chance late in the first half.

The 2nd half started with completely different conditions. In the 47th minute Tahon Buchanan hit the post for Bruges and in the 55th minute Callum Hudson-Odoi made a brilliant save from Simon Mignolet and also hit the post.

The pace got better and Leverkusen looked more for the goal. The substitution of Andreas Skov Olsen in place of the absent Noah Lahn gave Brugge a few yards advantage but the chances failed to materialize. 0-0 remained until the end, a result in favor of Leverkusen, who secured 3rd place and left Brugge in 2nd place.
