Shakhtar – Leipzig 0: 4: In the round of 16 with victory the Ukrainians in the Europa League
Leipzig followed Real into the last 16 of Champions League Group 6 after a 4-0 win over Shakhtar in Poland sent the Ukrainians into the Europa League.
THE Shakhtar wanted a win for qualifying, Leipzig was also happy with a draw. Finally, that 4-0 in Warsaw he left no room for who was entitled to his second ticket 6th group for the round of 16 of the Champions League, with the Germans reacting to the home four of the Ukrainians in the first round.
It kept Igor Jovičević’s side, three points behind, still in the “cave” of qualifying. The Germans were much better than September’s game (which is generally the case lately) and only took the lead in the 10th minute thanks to a counterattack by Christopher Enkunku.
Timo Werner’s injury didn’t deter them and they continued to prevail and didn’t let the home side threaten an equaliser.
Leipzig kept the upper hand in the second half and scored the 2-0 through Andre Silva in the 50th minute. A counterattack shortly afterwards brought Dominik Somboslai into goal, who let Dani Olmo go ahead in the 67th minute and the Spaniard scored seconds after entering the field.
The Ukrainians needed just one goal to do so when they eventually accepted elimination, taking them into the Europa League play-offs of the last 16, while the Germans enter the Champions League round of 16 as underdogs.
