Juventus – Paris 1: 2: Paris double, but second, the Bianconeri in the Europa League
Paris Saint-Germain beat Juventus 2-1 in Turin but settled for second place thanks to Benfica’s sweeping win in Israel. The Bianconeri continue in the Europa League.
Paris Saint-Germain cruised through Turin with a 2-1 win over Juventus, but thanks to Benfica’s terrific win over Maccabi Haifa, it was not enough to top the group. The Bianconeri may have been beaten but they retain third place and lead into the Europa League play-offs of the last 16.
Juventus came out stronger but it was Paris Saint-Germain who managed to take the lead in the 13th minute. Mbappe took a right-footed shot from outside the box, after dodging two Juventus players the ball landed in the net with the help of the crossbar.
The Bianconeri upped their game even further, threatening a couple of shots from Locatelli and Cuadrado. The Parisians also had a good moment with Messi in the 33rd minute to double their tally.
The pressure from Juventus paid off in the 39th minute. Locatelli sought Cuadrado on the right side of the area. The Colombian then found Bonucci’s head in the heart of the box, who scored to make it 1-1.
In the second half, Paris Saint-Germain took the lead again. Mendes, who had just entered the field, entered the penalty area from the left, took the shot and sent the ball into the net. This was also the end result of the match, with the Parisians settling for second place.
On a positive note for Juventus, Chiesa came on after January 9 after suffering a serious knee injury.
