Inter 0-2 Liverpool: 8 Reds qualifying hug with Firmino and Salah
Liverpool were a killer in the second half and with their only two home finals in the game, scoring with Firmino and Salah to beat Inter 2-0 in ‘Meazza’ and earn a huge qualifying advantage in the 8th of the Champions League .
Liverpool were the big winners in their first clash with Inter for the Champions League round of 16 as Jurgen Klopp’s side threw the Italian champions to the canvas with goals from Firmino (75′) and Salah (83′) for a huge advantage to find them in the quarterfinals of the tournament.
The game was perfectly balanced most of the time and both teams both had good moments not finding a goal to create an excellent ten minutes for the Reds just before the final to make the difference as they found nets in the two final tries in the hearth during the game for both gladiators.
It should be noted that in this year’s Champions League, Firmino scored 3 goals after appearing as a substitute in all games, met Salah in the eighth consecutive away game in the tournament, while Jurgen Klopp became the first German coach to top the list with 50 wins intercollegiate Furnishings.
In addition, Liverpool have won 15 of their 20 away games in all competitions so far this season, forcing Inter to their third defeat in 17 home games against English sides and their second after the same 2007-08 season the round of 16 (0:1 with goalscorer Fernando Torres).
The game
The game in Meazza picked up a high tempo from the start as both sides tried to dominate by pressing the opposition and the first ten minutes each resulted in a shot (5′ Martines – 9′ Thiago) which both goalkeepers not threatened .
In the 14th minute, Liverpool had their first dangerous visit as part of Hadanovic when Mane’s header went wide from inside the small area (after a foul by Robertson), which Inter responded with the greatest chance of the two teams in two minutes later the first 45 minutes.
Perisic moved to the touchline from the left and turned on Tsalhanoglou, who was free in the large penalty area, who fired the powerful right-hand shot, but was unlucky after the ball shook the bar.
At the other end, the Reds used the static phases as a siege ram, with Manes’ backhand going wide from a corner in the 23rd minute and Alexander-Arnold’s ambitious direct strike in the 29th minute having the same end.
In the first half, the two teams had a total of 8 finals (2nd Inter – 6th Liverpool), but did not score, and the continuation did not bring a terrible change in the picture of the game, since the next phase belonged to Inter, which belonged to Scriniar with a header in the 40 minutes, after a corner by Tsalhanoglou, who failed to find a goal.
Somehow the two teams were led into the dressing room at the break without a single final on target (in a total of 12 attempts, 9 of them by Liverpool), with several players on the axis but also the excellent presence of the respective stoppers, team catalyst so that each other Hadanovic and Allison will not have to undergo surgery.
In the second half it was Inter who came into play more powerfully, putting a lot of pressure on the English side who kept the ball constantly outside their box in the first ten minutes, with Lautaro Martines having a chance to go for the top scorer in the 53rd minute but fails to find the ball in Perisic’s wonderful spin.
Seeing his team lose strength and action on the field, Klopp made three collected changes in 59 minutes (Henderson, Keita and Dias instead of Fambino, Eliot and Mane) and that move paid off as the Reds gained momentum and had a very good moment in 63′ when Scriniar needed a safe tackle in the fourth quarter of Dias with Hadanovic to send the ball into the corner.
The sequel found the game back in balance when Dumfries threatened for Inter in the 73rd minute when his head went outside, but Firmino didn’t follow suit two minutes later and injured the Nerazzurri, with the Brazilian heading a shooter first post caught after a corner by Robertson to make it 1-0 for the Reds.
This was the first home final of the game for Klopp’s team, who showed tremendous effectiveness eight minutes later, converting a goal and their second home final.
Van Dyke and Konate crossed to the head from the right, and the ball reached Salah, who sent it into the immobilized Hadanovic’s net with a left-footed shot (0:2).
Inter had ten minutes to rectify the situation and climb a smaller mountain in the second leg from Anfield on March 8, but the Inzaghi players’ competitive fatigue (it took too long to make the changes) and their frustration made up for the situation remained as it was, with Liverpool pulling off a huge win that will bring them a hug by qualifying for the top 8 teams in the tournament.
