Paris were banned from the Champions League and for the first time in his career, Lionel Messi tasted the bitter taste of exclusion in the last 16 for two consecutive seasons.

When Lionel Messi joined Paris Saint-Germain in the summer of 2021 and left Barcelona after a full 17 years, his big goal was to find him with the Champions League trophy in his hands in the final of this season.

However, that dream dwindled early on and Karim Benzema is solely to blame as the French striker scored three times at Real – Paris and led the Madrid side to a 3-1 win and qualification for the Quarters.

The impressive thing is that Pulga made history for… the wrong reason as this was the first time in his career that he was eliminated in the last 16 of the Champions League in two consecutive seasons as he had experienced that feeling last year a Barcelona player against in his current team: Paris Saint-Germain.
