Inter Milan’s poor results in Serie A are no reason for Benfica to be complacent. Ahead of the first Champions League quarterfinals between the two teams, coach Roger Schmidt emphasized that the Nerazzurri are full of quality and experience.

Inter were within breath of three points at home against Salernitana last Friday but conceded a stunning Candreva goal in the 90th minute to go into a fourth straight league game without a win and out of the top-four championships to retire.

All of this has put unbearable pressure on Simone Inzaghi, but the specific situation isn’t enough to upset Odysseus Vlachodimos’ Benfica.

After all, the “Eagles” conceded a home defeat against Porto, which ruined the title fiesta they had prepared. Roger Schmidt is eagerly awaiting the first Champions League quarter-final with Milan to see his players’ reaction and forewarn Neratzuri class.

“Of the teams in the top eight of the Champions League, they are all great. The game is crucial for us and they are a top team for Inter.”

We have to play our best football and be ready for a very strong team with great individual quality and lots of opportunities.” he stressed at the press conference on Monday (4/10), adding:

“Of course I’ve been watching Inter’s games against Porto again, and not just this one. They’re a team with a lot of experience, they know how to play attacking football when it’s necessary and they know how to defend well.”

Losing is part of football. Last Friday we lost an important game, but we’ve won a lot in the past and that’s part of our development.

We should use the defeats to take something positive, in the last two days we only think about Inter. We won’t have Otamendi available, but we have two excellent candidates to replace him, Verissimo and Morato.”
