The Chelsea-Lille rematch will be broadcast on a Russian state channel set up on Putin’s decree
UEFA has banned the Russian teams from their competitions but still retains the TV deal with Russian state broadcaster Match TV, set up on behalf of Vladimir Putin, which will broadcast the Chelsea-Lille game while the Londoners try themselves solve by Abramovich.
The game between Chelsea and Lille in France for the new edition of the “16” of the Champions League (March 16, 10 p.m., COSMOTE Sport 3 and Live Sportish) will be broadcast in Russia by a state broadcaster, The Match TV, a member of the Gazprom Media Group, which was established by decree of President Vladimir Putin, according to a Daily Mail article. The broadcaster’s contract with the European Football Association runs until 2024.
It is recalled that the EFL and FA have temporarily suspended television contracts for broadcast in Russia, which UEFA has not yet done, despite banning Russian teams from its competitions. However, it raises questions for the football public as the contract with this company has not been suspended, especially since it has a direct relationship with the Russian state.
The continuation of the TV “presence” of the European champions in Russia embarrasses the club, which is trying to get rid of Roman Abramovich, who has already put the team up for sale.
