His participation in the final was in question as he attended a far-right conference in Poland and was the subject of allegations by anti-racism group Never Again.
The Polish referee apologized to UEFA and the respective teams, stressing that this had nothing to do with racism and anti-Semitism. Anti-racism groups reacting to his appointment urged UEFA not to revoke their appointment following Marciniak’s apology.
