Normally, Simon Marciniak officiates the Champions League final as his lengthy apology/clarification statement for attending a far-right conference in Poland has been accepted. Different groups fight against racism and discrimination.

Simon Marciniak will normally officiate the Champions League final between Manchester City and Inter Milan in Istanbul.

His participation in the final was in question as he attended a far-right conference in Poland and was the subject of allegations by anti-racism group Never Again.


The Polish referee apologized to UEFA and the respective teams, stressing that this had nothing to do with racism and anti-Semitism. Anti-racism groups reacting to his appointment urged UEFA not to revoke their appointment following Marciniak’s apology.
