The “Greens” have to face either Dnipro or Genk in the 2nd qualifying round of the Champions League and take the path of non-champions.

Ivan Jovanovic’s side will be placed in the underdog group along with Servette and will receive either runners-up Ukraine or runners-up Belgium to earn a ticket to the third qualifier.

If they are eliminated from the 2nd qualifying round for the Champions League, the “Greens” will continue on the path of non-champions in the 3rd qualifying round for the Europa League. Olympiacos are also in the same round, a detail that makes the difference for their ‘eternal’ rival.

The draw for this phase is scheduled for July 24th. UEFA bans ‘civilians’ in their qualifiers. So since there will be two Greek teams in the total of four games, the draw will result in no point.

The teams that start their European journey in this round are placed in the strong group by definition and those excluded from the Champions League in the weak group. Therefore, Olympiacos with Slavia will be among the strong and the pair of Panathinaikos with the other pair of the 2nd qualifying round of non-Champions League champions will be among the weak.

Powerless in 3rd qualifier due to…opponent

The 3rd qualifying round draw will take place before the 2nd qualifying round matches and thus Panathinaikos will also participate.
