Van Basten: ‘It’s not nice to watch Atletico, it makes sense to switch channels and stop Netflix’

Simeone’s full-on defensive tactics to curb Manchester City’s aggression have drawn mixed reviews, some of which have come from Dutch veteran Marco van Basten.

In contrast to the high quality football spectacle enjoyed by those watching live from the stands of the Etihad Stadium on Sunday afternoon Manchester City 2-Liverpool (2-2), a very different match had been played at the same stadium a few days earlier.

That’s why Diego Simeone took action that his only goal was not to let Manchester City play their game and therefore systematically led Atlético … 5-5-0 to the first quarter-finals of the Champions League between the two teams (win by fire and Iron for the citizens with goalscorer De Bruyne).

This fact has been stigmatized by many people, including Pep Guardiola, while it is impressive that although several days have passed, the full defensive behavior of the Rochiblancos is still being discussed.

The last to give his opinion was Marco Van Basten who, in an interview with Ziggo Sport, given the rematch at Wanda Metropolitano, justified viewers who will choose to change channels and put Netflix at the time of the Atletico game.

“What Atletico is doing is legal, it’s allowed, but I’m surprised there’s a team of 10 players who are behind the ball for 90 minutes just trying to avoid conceding.

It’s not nice for people to watch them. “It would make more sense for someone to change channels and watch Netflix or something at the same time.” stressed the legendary veteran striker and former FIFA employee, adding:

“A football organization like FIFA should start thinking about how football can be fun that keeps the world going. There is no fun in this type of football.

“You can’t blame anyone, a coach can play like that, it’s just not nice to watch two players like Felix and Griezmann, who cost a total of €300m, play 90 minutes in defence.”
