Sanetti: “City are the favorites to win the Champions League again, but I’m not writing off the Spanish teams”
Javier Zanetti has expressed the view that it will be difficult for Inter Milan to repeat last year’s impressive run of success in Europe, which saw them reach the Champions League final and overtake Manchester City as trophy favorites.
Last year, Inter made a big breakthrough by reaching the final of the Champions League (they even eliminated their compatriot Milan with two wins in the semi-finals), but they were unable to break through their ceiling after being succumbed to the superiority of Manchester City.
However, despite the defeat in Istanbul, the Milanese are happy with the presence of Simone Inzaghi on the bench. Javier Zanetti stated that his contract was rightly extended and stressed that it would be difficult for the Nerazzurri to repeat last year’s course.
“Inzaghi’s contract extension shows stability and confirms Inzaghi’s excellent work.” It will be difficult to return to the final, but there is no lack of our will to get there.
We know that anything is possible in football, but we have to take it step by step. First we have to go through the group, which is very important.” emphasized the vice president of Inter in an interview with “Marca” and added:
“Who is the favorite for the Champions League? City have a complete squad and will be the last champions to try to win the trophy again.”
But I don’t write off the big Spanish teams because they know these competitions very well and have a tradition.”
When asked to comment on Lautaro Martinez, who now wears the captain’s armband at Inter, he said: “Lautaro represents everything that a club like Inter is all about. He is a striker who is improving every year.”
