Shakhtar invites Klitschko and Scholz to the Champions League and will pay 1.5 million euros to Hamburg
As it is known, Shakhtar Donetsk will play the 2023/24 Champions League group stage matches at Hamburg’s home team, Volksparkstadion Arena.
The German club will receive compensation of around 1.5 million euros from the Ukrainian club for the use of the stadium, but this will largely depend on whether the Pitmen sell out each of their three home matches.
Hamburg will need to prepare the pitch and comply with all the requirements to host Champions League matches outlined in UEFA’s 198-page catalogue.
Shakhtar is confident that many citizens will come together to support the team. It is estimated that approximately 100 thousand Ukrainians live around Hamburg.
Pitmen management also sent invitations to VIPs. Vitali and Vladimir Klitschko, who especially saw Hamburg as a special city for their sports career, were invited to Shakhtar’s Champions League group stage matches. The Ukrainian club also sent an invitation to current German Chancellor Olaf Scholz, who was the first mayor of Hamburg between 2011 and 2018.
Let us also remind you that Shakhtar’s opponents in the Champions League group stage will be Barcelona, Porto and Antwerp.
