Real – Union 1-0: The usual suspect Bellingham redeemed Madrid in the 90+4 minute
Real looked bleak against Union and looked ready to throw away two points in their Champions League debut, but Jude Bellingham took them by the hand again and gave Ancelotti’s team the three points with a goal in the 90+4 minute.
Union was just a breath away from… the dream of getting a result in their first game in Europe’s top club competition at the Bernabeu, but Jude Bellingham wouldn’t let him.
The English international midfielder has taken Real by the hand in this year’s La Liga, leading them to the top, and it seems he was jealous and did the same in the Champions League after scoring in the 90+4 minute had achieved a phase favored by successive struggles at the heart of the German defense that made it 1-0 and a hat-trick for Carlo Ancelotti’s side.
The match
Real entered the pitch with five wins in as many first La Liga games and two surprises in a row at home, but in front of them they found a team that made their dream come true, with the first game in their history in the Champions League league and this fact played a big role in the game.
Especially in the first half, in which Carlo Ancelotti’s team had possession of the ball but could not create any clear chances, the Germans were excellently positioned on the field and defended in an exemplary manner, with the three defenders being in excellent shape: Doecki, Bonucci and Leite.
Joselu was involved in most phases of the merengue but was unable to hit the target. In the first half final, Real faced 12 finals (Union 3) and 71% possession, but essentially didn’t cause any headaches for Fischer’s hardened team.
The second half was a completely different affair, with Real eschewing meaningless and chatty possession and becoming a real threat to Union, forcing Renov to make a series of interventions to contain the Madrilenians.
In the 51st minute, Rodrigo was beaten in a four-pointer by the Union keeper and saw his curling shot hit the left post within seconds. In the 54th minute, Renov impressively parried Joselu’s shot and the Spaniard landed on goal. In the 54th minute, in the 63rd minute, you could see how the ball landed on the right post and the Berlin goalkeeper found it with his fingertips .
After an explosive quarter, Union took a breather, but Real did not give in and as the game entered the final phase, the tempo was increased again, requiring new great interventions not only from Renov, but also from Bonucci.
Real’s allusion to missed chances and the Germans’ refusal to … faint showed that the game would remain a goalless draw, but Bellingham had said nothing at the most opportune moment, in the fourth minute of stoppage time.
After a corner, the ball reached Valverde, who fired a strong shot, the black and white Thea stopped with body and was outlawed, with the carom finding the English midfielder, who sent it into the net from the height of the small space without an opponent and gave it to Real a golden victory (1-0), as he – once again since the beginning of the season – experienced the apotheosis of the Bernabeu audience.
It should be noted that Bellingham’s goal was Real’s 30th of the game, which celebrated only its second Champions League victory with a goal in extra time, with the first goal again coming at 90+4 minutes at the Bernabeu Morata signed during the Merengues’ win against Sporting in September 2016.
