Barcelona 2-1 Shakhtar: The new generation gave them their third win in three games
Barcelona reached 3/3 in Group 8 of the Champions League by defeating Shakhtar, largely thanks to the products of Masia, which Xavi entrusted to the team.
Xavi once again trusted a horde of teenagers and they left him pale-faced after Barcelona bowed out the game Shakhtar with 2-1 for his 3rd matchday 8th group and with the absolute number of points he is already very close to qualifying for the knockout round of the Champions League.
The Catalan coach threw Fermin and Lamin Yamal deep, while on the bench were Mark Casado, Ander Astraga, Mark Giou, Hector Fort, Alejs Garrido and Pau Koumbarsi, several of whom he used in the second half for a change.
The hosts (albeit on the Montjuic hill) were in complete control of the game at the start, missing chances and scoring their two goals within eight minutes. First, Ferran Torres scored a rebound onto Fermin’s crossbar in the 28th minute, and the young Spaniard was finally named the goalscorer in the 36th minute.
The 20-year-old midfielder was one of the most active footballers in the game, he missed other chances, he also had a goal post in the 2nd half and constantly disrupted the defense of the Ukrainians, who still managed to hold their own decently.
The goal they scored at the end of the hour on a counterattack with Giorgi Sudakov brought them into the game, but that was all they managed.
The VAR had a lot to do in the game as it disallowed home goals due to minor offsides and reviewed penalty cases on both sides.
