The teams that qualified for the round of 16 of the Champions League
Real, Bayern, Inter Milan and Real Sociedad qualified for the knockout round of the Champions League after the 4th round of the group stage.
Real Madrid followed Manchester City and Leipzig into the knockout stages of the Champions League after beating Braga in Group 2. The “Merengues” reached the round of 16 as the 3rd team and did not yet know whether they would take 1st or 2nd place in the overall ranking.
In addition, two teams from the 4th group also qualified. Real Sociedad and Inter Milan’s victories on Wednesday sent both into the round of 16, leaving Benfica and Salzburg to fight for a place in the Europa League.
Bayern needed it against Galatasaray in the 1st group, but also qualified for the knockout round with 4/4.
It is recalled that the eight group winners will play against the eight group runners-up, but countries of the same football association cannot compete against each other.
