In the Champions League group stage match between Porto and Shakhtar yesterday, there was a controversial moment when Pitman Sican equalized the score in the 29th minute, although the linesman flagged one of the Donetsk players as offside during the attack.

Famous former referee Miroslav Stupar He gave his assessment of this match section exclusively to Sport.ua:

– During the match, football players only obey the referee’s whistle. This is the law. It was the Porto players’ fault for stopping and reacting to the offside flag, as the whistle was silent during the away team’s productive attack. The home team must know that when a regular player raises his flag, he is signaling not to himself, but to the referee, who will decide to stop or continue the game. It is strange that after Sican’s goal was deemed fair with the help of VAR, the home team, led by the master Pepe, who wanted to hinder the referee team, forgot about this. Everything ended as expected: substitute goalkeeper Claudio Ramos and head coach Conceicao were given off-field warnings.

Was Romanian referee Kovacs innocent, unlike his assistant? No, he made mistakes too, but they did not affect the final result. Porto deservedly defeated Shakhtar.
