French interior minister: ‘If we didn’t remove people, there would be deaths’
The French interior minister defended the police’s decisions outside the Stade de France, stressing that otherwise there would be deaths.
UEFA has opened an independent investigation into what happened outside the Stade de France in the Champions League final between Real and Liverpool. At the same time, the Reds are asking for reports from their fans.
THE French Interior Minister Gerald Darmanen spoke to TF1 about Liverpool fans being delayed and fake tickets. At the same time, he emphasized that if people were not removed, there would be deaths.
“What happened is there were 30,000 to 40,000 more people than the stadium could hold. There were some with fake tickets and others without tickets. 70% of the checks revealed that there were fake tickets, a ban was created 21:00 (French time) 97% of the Spanish fans had entered the stadium, only 50% of the English and if there were problems with the English that means not that all fake tickets are from English.
Apparently there were pictures and other evidence that were not intended. I would like to say that without the decisions of the police and without the evacuation by some people who can hardly be seen on TV, there would have been deaths. Because they were crushed at the gates of the Stade de France. There were many arrests, hundreds. The police did their job. “Some of the troublemakers are in custody,” he said.
