Swiss police ban Marseille fans for Basel rematch
The difficult episodes that took place at the Velodrome before the start of the match between Marseille and Basel will have consequences for Olympique fans who will not be able to strengthen their team in the forthcoming rematch.
Marseille and Basel put up a strong battle on the grass, first to claim the win 2-1 and earn a small lead to qualify for the Conference League with 8 hours to go before the first cross.
Fans of both groups played in them, forcing French police to intervene to restore order, with Marseille fans still paying a heavy price for the behavior of some hotheads.
And that’s because the friends of Marseille are forced to watch the game on TV and not live in the rematch that Jorge Sampaoli’s team and his people will need to get the ticket to the quarter-finals.
The reason was the Swiss police’s decision to block their travel to Switzerland, with Basel announcing on Friday (3/11) via its official Twitter account that local police have ordered the door of fans hosted to be closed for the rematch in “St. Jakob-Park” next Thursday (March 17).
