Gent coach Hein Vanhazebrook said in a press conference that the 0-0 in the Toumba game was fairer, while he expects his players to do better in the offensive part compared to the first game.
Gent coach Hein Vanhazebrook explained in the press conference before the second leg of the “16” in the Conference League (March 17, 10:00 p.m., COSMOTE Sport 2 and LIVE by Sportish) against PAOK his trust in the players and that they only think about signing up for to qualify for the quarterfinals.
At the same time, for the first game, he emphasized that 0-0 would be fairer and that they could have avoided the first goal, while explaining that by watching each game separately, they give a foundation to all tournaments that go on.
What Vanhazebrook said, among other things: “We’ve been living with this do or die for six weeks now and every match has that character in every event we attend. It’s something we’re used to. We lost the cup in Brugge 0-1, but we won it 3-0 and qualified for the final.
We’re in that situation again against PAOK. I have faith in my players, they are used to playing it all or nothing. We have already proven that we are good all year round.“
For the first game: “We shouldn’t have lost the first game. Our goal could have been avoided. The 0-0 was a fairer result. I have to add that we didn’t play well in offense, but it wasn’t just the attacking players. It is the responsibility of the entire team. I expect that tomorrow we will do better and achieve more than in Greece“.
Whether in Europe or at national competitions: “We see it game by game. We will see how everyone will run in the game with PAOK, only then will we decide with which team we will play against Anderlecht. In the past we played twice with the same team in similar conditions, but sometimes we changed. We also have to wait and see if we will leave the game against PAOK without injuries.
We are setting new goals in Europe as the season progresses. Our goal now is to qualify for the quarter-finals, but we also have our cup and organizational goals. We’re still playing on three fronts and intend to continue to do so. You could pass out tonight, but we don’t think so. We only think about moving on“.
For the mood of the people in the stadium: “They’re better. But we’re still not at the level of our glory years when we had the best atmosphere here of any Belgian club. I remember how moved everyone was because the fans were behind the team. I hope to experience this atmosphere again tomorrow at PAOK and on Sunday at Anderlecht“.
