Europa Conference League: By fire and iron Leicester and Marseille, Eindhoven comfortable
Leicester lost to Rennes in France, but won in England to reach the quarter-finals of the Europa Conference League. In the end, Marseille caused a surprise against Basel. Eindhoven in Copenhagen is four.
Leicester had prevailed 2-0 in England and, despite the defeat, finally qualified for the round of 16 of the Europa Conference League. 1-2 of the reindeer in “Roazon”.
The game was episodic and Benjamin Burizo made sure of that with his goal in the 6th minute. A goal that was celebrated boisterously in the stands, causing part of the railing to collapse unharmed.
The French kept their foot on the gas, had the ball on their feet but failed to create big moments. Wesley Fofana’s 51st-minute equalizer brought the game to Fox level, but Flavien Tet’s 75th-minute goal gave Rennes hope. The third goal the pair would score in extra time failed to materialize and the English were given a difficult qualification.
Eindhoven had scored four goals in the game at Phillips Stadium, but there were so many more Copenhagen. In Denmark, this limit was only reached by the Dutch and with 4-0 triumphantly qualified for the quarterfinals. Eran Zahavi scored the opening goal in the 10th minute after a mistake by Carl Johnson, and in the 38th minute Mario Götze made it 2-0. The Danes were nothing like the side they were struggling with a week ago, having only six finals and one goal (and a bar) and conceding two more goals from Zahavi and Noni Mandueke in the end.
Despite the many opportunities it had, Marseille failed to make qualification clear from the first game and almost paid for it. In the end, he caused the surprise at the end and took the win 2-1 on her kingdom in Switzerland. Dan Edoi opened the scoring for the hosts, a goal that saw the pair draw after Marseille 2-1 win in the first game. Genghis Uder reacted quickly, however, and in the delays, Valentin Rozier caused a stir.
