Bodo Glimt – Roma 2-1: Norwegian nightmare returns for Mourinho
Bodo Glimt is proving to be a nightmare for Roma as Norway clinched a 2-1 win in the first Europa Conference League quarter-finals.
The Roma returned to Norway after the six they received from Bodo shine in the group stage of the Europa Conference League and could only in the quarter-finals (1-2). Norway found themselves on the losing side but turned the game around in the second half when Hugo Vetles scored the winner in the 89th minute.
The “Jialorosi” dominated in the 1st half and although they were out of the ball longer than the Norwegians, they tried several times with the reflexes of Nikita Haykin. The Russian goalkeeper managed to save any threat until the 43rd minute when Lorenzo Pellegrini opened the scoring from a very difficult angle.
The picture of the game changed drastically in the second half, although the two coaches did not send any fresh players from the bench. The Norwegians increased possession, found it easier to get into Rui Patricio’s penalty area and had chances to level. The Portuguese goalkeeper stopped it all until the 56th minute, when a shot from Bryce Webangomo and a counterattack sent the ball into his hands and into the net.
The momentum went with the home side, although Jose Mourinho made the substitution with an aggressive aura. Matthias Vinia and Eldor Somurodov came on after the 1-1 draw (along with Chris Smalling) but failed to find Roma’s second goal. On the contrary, the third goal of the game was scored by Hugo Vetlesen, who gave the win to Bodo Glimt in 89′.
Roma lost again in Norway after six seasons in the group stage but return to Italy with hopes of qualifying.
