Greek police ‘block’ to Marseille fans for rematch with PAOK
In view of the game against PAOK (April 14), Thessaloniki’s General Police Department has submitted a written application to the responsible authorities for a ban on the organized and individual movement of Marseille fans. Intervention by Minister of Civil Protection Takis Theodorikakou at UEFA.
The General Police Headquarters of Thessaloniki, in view of the game with PAOK at Toumba Stadium (April 14, 10:00 p.m., COSMOTE SPORT 2 HD and LIVE on Sportish), has the Quarterfinals of the Conference League.
In the first game between the two teams, serious incidents broke out between fans both at the stadium and in the city of Marseille, increasing the risk of a rematch for fear of similar scenes. The implementation of the measure banning the movement of Marseille fans has also been applied to other international away matches played by the French team in the past.
Civil Defense Minister Takis Theodorikakos had a communication on the same subject with UEFA General Secretary Theodoros Theodoridis and Deputy General Secretary Giorgio Marketi on Monday (4/11). In his intervention, the minister asked to grant the request of the Greek police to maintain public order and protect socio-economic life in Thessaloniki.
