Wei Jo Huang’s special relationship with Nant

Ui Jo Huang has fond memories of Nantes, having scored two goals and one assist in six games for Bordeaux against the Canary Islands, who even tried to sign him last summer.

Just two weeks after arriving in Greece and joining Olympiakos, Ui Jo Huang returns to France to face Nantes in the Europa League group stage opener (Thursday 8/9, 22:00, COSMOTE SPORT 2, LIVE Sportish).

The South Korean centre-forward has fond memories of the game against the Canary Islands, where he scored two goals and one assist in six games for Bordeaux. In fact, eleven months ago, Ui Jo Huang scored a stunning goal with a diagonal high-flying right shot from outside the box that sent the ball into the Nantes keeper’s left window.

The game was played at the Girondins’ home ground on 17 October 2021 and ended in a 1-1 draw. The veteran striker had struggled at the front of the attack alongside Sekou Mara (in a 4-4-2 formation), who was transferred to Southampton a month and a half ago.

Two years earlier, on 3 November 2019, Ui Jo Huang scored and assisted in Bordeaux’s 2-0 home win over Nantes. In that game, the Asian footballer had played as a peripheral striker (in 3-4-2-1), with Briand at the helm.

Also worth noting is the fact that Nantes tried to sign Ui Jo Huang in the summer by making an official offer to Bordeaux. The Yellow-Greens bid 3,500,000 but Nottingham Forest stepped in and snapped up the South Korean centre-forward for €4,000,000 plus a €1,000,000 goal bonus and the player was loaned out to Olympiakos.

Ui Jo Huang will be hoping for his third goal in three years against Nantes on Thursday (8/9) at the Stade de la Beauzoir, either in the starting XI or during the game.

Zinchenko announces Nottingham Forest’s Europa League victory over Utrecht

Ukrainian defender Nottingham Forest Alexander Zinchenko He shared his feelings after his team beat Utrecht (2:1) in the main round of the Europa League.

“It’s a great feeling. First of all, I’m back. Secondly, it’s an incredible feeling to win a match. Getting three points today was very important for us. As you can see, it was a difficult match. But at the end of the match, I think we got what we wanted and let’s continue like that.”

“As a defender you always want to keep a clean sheet, but unfortunately we couldn’t do that today. So it’s something we need to work on in the future.”

“This is one of those matches where whoever wins the most challenges in different areas of the field will win the match. Today we won many more goals which helped us a lot in the game. But to be honest, even the opportunities we created, including me, we should have scored and finished this match earlier,” said Zinchenko.

Nottingham Forest is in 11th place in the rankings with 11 points after 6 matches in the Europa League this season.
