Playing with 10 players for one half, West Ham took the lead and eventually progressed to the Europa League quarter-finals by beating Lyon 1-1 in London.

Aaron Creswell’s dismissal at the end of the first half appeared to condemn West Ham, but the Londoners regrouped and took a second-half lead before eventually drawing 1-1 at Lyon in the Europa League quarter-finals.

In the 1st half, the opponents neutralized a large part of the game until the key phase came in the delays. Musa Dembele went four, Creswell grabbed him and threw him to the ground before entering the area and the referee showed the ‘Hammer’ player a red card.

Despite David Moghes’ fierce protests at half-time, his players did not let this development discourage them and indeed Jarrod Bowen opened the scoring in the 52nd minute thanks to a lucky goal with many counterattacks in favor of the Londoners.

The joy didn’t last long as in 66′ Tangi Entobele, a Tottenham player on loan to the French, drew level to make it 1-1.

Alphonse Areola’s interventions kept the tie and West Ham are still hoping to qualify for the European Championship semi-finals for the first time since 1976.
