More than 140 fans arrested after fighting in Amsterdam metro ahead of Europa League match
More than 140 fans of Amsterdam Ajax and Greek AEK were arrested in the Dutch capital in the 6th round of the Europa League group stage, due to a fight that broke out before the match between the teams.
According to NOS, a conflict broke out between the fans of the Dutch and Greek clubs in the subway after the trains stopped next to each other on the way to the stadium. Additionally, fans clashed with police in the city centre. Following the events, the metro station was evacuated to ensure the safe passage of trains carrying visiting team fans.
Amsterdam Mayor Femke Halsema said the incidents were “a stain on an exciting evening of football that Ajax fans greatly enjoyed”.
Let’s point out that Ajax won 3:1 on the field. The Amsterdam team, which ranks third in the group with 5 points, will continue its fight in the Conference League in the spring term.
