Giorgos Athanasiadis made a fatal mistake against Panserraikos, causing Union to lose three points in the final.

AEK failed to defeat Panserraikos as it ended in a 2-2 draw in the final due to a tragic error from Athanasiadis.

The Union’s record is poor when the Greek goalkeeper starts under the posts, as they have only managed one win in eight games in Greece and Europe.

In Europe, Athanasiadis started three games. In the away game against Antwerp for the Champions League playoffs, in the home defeat against Marseille, but also in the game against Ajax in Amsterdam.

He played five games in the league. Union drew in four of them (two against Panserraikos) and in the away games against Kifisia and Panaitoliko. The only win AEK celebrated with him this year was against Aris at the OPAP Arena.

Athanasiadis also played in the sixth home game against Marseille, although not in the starting line-up. He came on as a substitute due to Stankovic’s suspension and conceded two goals from as many penalties.
