Eintracht – Glasgow Rangers. Europa League final prediction and announcement

On 18 May, the famous Spanish stadium “Ramon Sanchez Pizjuan” (Seville) will host the Europa League final. The rather unexpected finalists will meet – the German Eintracht and the Scottish Glasgow Rangers. So far, the competitors have won one European Cup each: in 1980 the Germans took the UEFA Cup (the prototype of the current LE), and in 1972 the Scots took the forgotten Cup Winners’ Cup.

Eintracht

Oliver Glasner’s team moved from the group stage to the decisive match in one breath: the Germans have not yet suffered a single defeat.

The group stage of the LE “eagles” passed in the “one left” mode. The group of German middle peasants (the team took only eleventh place in the current German championship) was visually difficult: Fenerbahce, Antwerp and Olympiakos. The Germans, however, easily won the group with three wins and a draw each. However, in each round of the playoffs, Eintracht defeated their opponents by one goal.

First, the Spanish “Betis” was replayed – 2:1 and 1:1. Then the “eagles” made a real sensation, leaving the tournament with the main favorite “Barcelona” – 1:1 and 3:2. Moreover, our guests were leading 3-0 for a long time at Camp Nou and conceded two goals in just the last ten minutes. In the semi-finals, Glasner’s guards beat Andrey Yarmolenko – West Ham – 2:1 and 1:0 without much difficulty.

On the eve of the final, Eintracht is experiencing some personnel issues. The involvement of the two main defenders, Ndik and Hinteregger, in the duel is questionable. It is therefore possible for Glasner to play with two wingers and three centre-backs. There is also the participation of midfielders Costa and Lindstrom.

Oliver Glasner, Eintracht manager:

– The success of the team in the semi-finals is simply incredible. I told the players, “I don’t know if we are the best players or the best coaches, but we have an amazing team. Together we can do a lot.” It’s great that you can make so many people happy.

Glasgow Rangers

Unlike their rivals in the finals, van Bronkhorst’s men had a hard time getting past the tournament – almost in their entire “grid”.

In the LE playoffs, the “travelers” made their way through the “veins”: the team lost twice, there were the same number of draws and victories. In fairness it should be noted that the Scottish vice-champion group is tough: Lyon, Brondby and Sparta.

But then the Rangers went crazy. In the 1/16 final, they beat the first German teams at that time – Borussia Dortmund – 4:2 and 2:2. Also, the Serbian “Crvena Zvezda” was defeated due to the confident game in her homeland – 1:2 and 3:0. The native “Ibroks” became the key to success in the confrontation with the Portuguese “Braga” – 0:1 and 3: 1. With a similar score, the Scots beat another German club, Leipzig, in the semi-finals. And now it’s the next hard nut from the Bundesliga.

In the final, van Bronkhorst is unlikely to trust defender Helander and midfielder Hadji. While it’s the “Rangers” main loss, it certainly carries Morelos forward. Meanwhile, due to this staff loss, Glasgow Rangers played almost the entire playoff round without a nominal forward. It looks like he will play the same in the decisive match.

Giovanni van Bronkhorst, Glasgow Rangers head coach:

– I am proud of our success. There aren’t many players playing in the European Cup finals. This is not given to everyone. Since we got there, we will do anything to win.

Personal meetings

In the European arena, the paths of rivals crossed only once – in the already distant 1960. Then in the semi-finals of the Champions Cup (similar to the current Champions League), the Germans beat the Rangers 12:4 overall in two games. This defeat is still seen as the main failure of the team from Glasgow in the international arena. However, in the final of the main European tournament, the Eagles did not win, losing to Real Madrid 3:7.

guess

Both on “paper” and “life” Eintracht is seen as a favorite of confrontation. The Germans are more volatile offensively, in addition to not losing a single game so far. And while less dependent on their stadium, Rangers almost always won thanks to Ibrox’s amazing support. However, the match will be very competitive. And probably few goals scored. We predict a minimum victory 1:0 for the “Eagles”.

Approximate compositions:

Eintracht: Trapp, Toure, Tuta, Ndika, Knauff, Sow, Rode, Kostic, Hauge, Kamada, Borre

Glasgow Rangers: McGregor, Goldson, Lundstram, Bassi, Tavernier, Jack, Kamara, Barisic, Wright, Aribo, Kent.
