Nikos Tsoumanis was found dead Tuesday morning at the age of 31. He is a footballer with a tenure at Interwetten stadiums in Super League with Aris, Corfu and Xanthi now part of Makedonikos.

Nikos Tsoumanis was found dead on Tuesday morning in a message that shocked Greek football. The 31-year-old left-back has been part of Makedonikos, who is eligible to play in the Third National, since September but did not manage to play with the Napoli side. Authorities are seriously considering the possibility of suicide and the autopsy results are awaited.

He was born in Igoumenitsa on June 8, 1990 but educated in the academies of Xanthi until 2009. That summer he was sent to Makedonikos, where he got his first matches and played in the Greek Cup, defeating Ethnikos Filippiadas and losing to the Panserraikos in extra time.

Xanthi brought him back in the summer of 2010, however they didn’t get many chances in the Super League Interwetten. Two games in 2010-2011 (both against Olympiakos Volos), only one half next season (the last game against Ergotelis he scored with).

The time to look for a new station had come. Corfu gave him opportunities at all levels and under the guidance of Apostolos Mantzios and Giannis Papakostas he had 20 appearances in the league and two more in the cup, playing a total of 1,680 minutes.

His performances convinced Aris to give him a chance and in 2013-2014 he wore the ‘yellow’ jersey 24 times and scored one goal against Panthrakikos. His main position was at left-back, but he played as both left midfielder and central defender whenever the need arose.

The new season found him again as a key player at Panthrakikos, but as a left midfielder, which is why he scored one goal (against PAOK) with two assists (both against PAS). In the summer of 2015, she found him in Veria, but his leader, Theodoros Karypidis, took over Aris that summer and Tsoumanis followed him back to the “Yellows”.

He made his first appearances in the Football League but failed to find a spot on the team. Despite this, it remained unchanged until 2017-2018.

In the summer of 2018, his relationship with Aris ended, but not with Thessaloniki. He signed with Apollon Pontou, where he played as a key player in the Football League’s inaugural season. Losing his place in 2019-2020, he played in just 11 games, most of them at right-back, as a central midfielder or even as a stopper.

In October 2020, in the final days of transfers, he was with Triglia, who played in the Football League. He didn’t find time to participate there either, returning last September to where it all began, in Naples. “Twelve years after first wearing the green, the experienced left-back has re-signed for Makedonikos at the age of 31 and will add to George Amanatidis’ team’s efforts to become the star this year.”mentioned, among other things, the announcement of Makedonikos.
