Barcelona will receive FIFA compensation for Araujo’s injury under the Club Protection Scheme as long as the Uruguayan centre-back stays on the pitch for at least 28 days.

Barcelona have lost Ronald Araujo and Gilles Conte to injury, with the Uruguayan stopper’s injury proving to be more serious. Thus, the Catalans are entitled to compensation from FIFA for the injury of the 23-year-old stopper, possibly Kunte as well, if they stay on the pitch for more than 28 days.

World football’s governing body created the Club Protection Scheme to protect clubs in the event players are injured with their national teams. To receive compensation, 28 days must pass. “First day” is defined as the day on which the player travels to his club up to and including midnight on the 28th.

Araujo is currently in doubt even for the World Cup, as reported by Mundo Deportivo (the timing of his return is not certain), so it is very likely that he will exceed the 28 days of ‘shutdown’. The compensation that teams can receive is up to €20,548 per day (€7.5 million per year).

The compensation teams are entitled to is based on his base salary, not bonuses, and ends when Araujo returns to training.
